Chapter Thirty-Nine

"Yes, why don't you talk to her? She can tell you what's up with her. I'm at my wits end where she's concerned. I think she needs therapy," said her mom. Sofia's eyes widened with shock. Was Victoria's condition that bad that she needed therapy?

"I'll definitely talk to her but is she that bad?" Asked Sofia with concern.

"She has stopped all interactions with everyone after returning from Reno. Hasn't she told you anything?" Asked her mom with worry.

"No, she left without even informing me while I was busy at the hospital with Davion, " said Sofia, looking helplessly at her mom. Her dad and Davion were busy discussing Davion's work and thankfully didn't bother with the topic of their conversation.

"She has stopped going to college and has opted for online classes. I have no clue as to what's going on. She usually locks her door and shuts me out. She doesn't answer my questions also, " said her mom. Sofia sighed hearing her twin's condition. Victoria had always been there when she herself had needed her and now when Victoria needed her, she couldn't go to Las Vegas.

"I'll call Vicky, mom. Don't worry. I'm sure she'll tell me, " she comforted her mom.

They chatted about Davion's condition. "He can walk but his mental block is prohibiting him from doing so," said Sofia.

"It will happen. Don't force him. He gets nervous if you force him," said her mom but Sofia wasn't listening. The dull throbbing ache in her uterus for the last two hours had increased and suddenly she felt an excruciating pain in her core. She clutched at her abdomen, closing her eyes and breathing deeply as the pain ebbed away gradually.

"Are you pain? I think the you need to go to the hospital immediately, Sofi, " said her mom.

"Yes mom," said Sofia, as she started to relax as the contraction subsided.

Her mom told her dad and they all got ready to get her to the hospital. Davion called Francis and with David's help he climbed in. Sofia's mom helped her to the car and then climbed in along with her dad. They went to the hospital and Sofia was taken away to the labor room. Davion sat with her parents outside the labor room, waiting eagerly. After an hour Sofia gave birth to the prettiest angel on earth, Celestine. Davion held her hands and gave her moral support throughout. He was the happiest man on earth when he saw his baby girl. He ecstatically stood up from his wheelchair and took four steps towards his baby, eager to hold her. Sofia forgot her pain and gasped with happiness seeing her husband walk after six long months. Davion collapsed into a chair unable to continue any further, feeling upset but the nurses let him hold Celestine and he was happy again.

"She looks just like you," said Davion, beaming at Sofia. "Angelic and gorgeous ," he whispered.

"But she has your eyes," whispered Sofia, tired and her eyes closing from exhaustion. The nurses took away Celestine and Davion stroked Sofia's forehead and planted a kiss.

"I'll see you in your room. I'm waiting outside, okay?" He whispered tenderly. Sofia nodded as the doctor and nurses tended to her. Soon they transferred her to her room and Davion came over to check up on her.

"Are you okay, baby?" He asked tenderly stroking her head. Her parents told came to see her. She nodded at Davion and smiled weakly at everyone, her eyes drowsy from the exhaustion.

"Get some rest, Sofi. We'll come back later," said her mom. Sofia dozed off when they left.

Davion however didn't rest. He returned home and summoned his physiotherapist. For the next two hours, he overcame all his inhibitions and started taking one step at a time to walk. He wanted to lead a normal life and take complete responsibility of his little family. After repeated failures finally Davion was able to walk using a walking stick.

"I don't want to use a stick," grumbled Davion.

"Initially you will need it, Davion. After your muscles get adjusted and stronger, you can get rid of the stick. It's a gradual process," explained the physiotherapist. "At least it's better than the wheelchair, " he coaxed.

So on his next visit, Davion walked into Sofia's room in the hospital, looking proud and happy. Sofia looked at him too shocked to speak. There was a confident smile on his face and even if he though he hobbled using a walking stick. Sofia opened her arms out to him and he grinned widely and gave her a tight hug.

"You did it, baby. Today's the most special day for me," said Sofia.

"For me as well," admitted Davion.

"Did you check up on Celine?" Asked Sofia. Davion gave her a puzzled look.

"Now who's Celine?" He asked.

"Celestine's nickname of course, " said Sofia with a laugh. "You can't call her Celestine all the time. She needs a smaller nickname," pointed out Sofia.

"Yeah right. Well, I thought of surprising you first and then Celine, " said Davion.

The next day Sofia and Celestine were released from the hospital and brought home. Greta was the busiest woman at home, fussing over Sofia as well as Celestine. Davion appointed a nanny to take care of Celestine and relieve Greta as well as Sofia.

Colton came over to meet Celestine and Sofia noticed a change in him as she interacted with him. He seemed more mature and reserved than before. He didn't mention his dates or women as he always did in the past. He touched Celestine's cheek and asked after Sofia's health. Then he met her parents and after a brief discussion about their business issues within Davion, he left.

"What's wrong with him?" Sofia asked Davion. He shrugged.

"I have no idea. Ever since Victoria left, he has changed a lot. Maybe this has something to do with Victoria. Even she has disappeared and not contacted you for the last three months," said Davion.

"Yeah, mom said that she too had changed a lot. I promised to call her but then Celestine was born and I couldn't, " said Sofia feeling guilty.

"Do it now. It's better late than never," said Davion, leaving the room. Sofia went to the nursery and fed Celestine and after putting her to sleep, came back to her room to talk to Victoria.

She called her twice but she didn't receive her call. Sofia decided to try later and lay down to take some rest. After Celestine was born, she felt too exhausted to do anything else but sleep. Maybe after getting adequate rest, she would try again to talk to Victoria.

Later in the evening, Sofia found the time to talk to Victoria.  With Davion not yet returned from work and Celestine still sleeping she was a little free. After four calls, Victoria answered her call. "Hey!" She said in a tired voice.

"Were you sleeping, Vicky?" Asked Sofia.

"Yeah, I was up all afternoon studying for my upcoming assessments," Victoria informed her.

"Oh, so have you heard the news or not? When are you coming down to see your niece?" Asked Sofia excitedly. There was silence on the other side.

"Vicky?" Prompted Sofia. It was strange that hee twin didn't squeal with delight hearing the news.

"Yeah, congrats, Sofi! I can't  one now. I'm not well," said Victoria softly, her voice breaking a little.

"What happened to you?" Asked Sofia worriedly. Again there was silence on the other end.

"Are you there Vicky? You can tell me what happened,  can't you? We've never hidden anything from one another since the day we were born," Sofia reminded her. Victoria sighed heavily. Sofia could hear her rapid breathing which meant that something serious was up with her. She knew Victoria. She was a go-getter and a fighter in the true sense of the term.

"I'm pregnant too," said Victoria. Sofia was dumbfounded by her twin's admission. The immediate thought that hit her was whether it was Colton's baby or not.

"Is it Colton's?" She couldn't help but ask her.

"No, it's his friend's. I was too drunk and he took advantage of me, " said Victoria in a hoarse voice. Sofia clasped her heart horrified by her twin's statement.

"Colton knows about it?" She asked angrily.

"Yes, he doesn't care about me. He doesn't love me. I was foolish enough to fall for him. I just flirted with his friend to get Colton jealous and he took advantage of me," choked Victoria as she burst into hopeless tears.

"Vicky, don't cry. This is serious. We need to tell mom and dad and get the guy punished for what he did to you," said Sofia.

"It's of no use. He doesn't live here and there's no proof of his crime," said Victoria, wiping her tears.

"Of course there is. The baby growing inside you is proof enough," said Sofia incredulously.

"What proof is there that I didn't willingly have se* with him?" Asked Victoria. Sofia was quiet. She was right. There was no proof. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone, Sofi. If you do, I'll leave home forever," threatened Victoria.

"I won't but how long can you hide it?" Asked a worried Sofia.

"I'll tell everyone when the time is right," said Victoria.
