Chapter Twenty-Three

Sofia stood right in front of Carolyn Stewart and looked her in the eye. "Stop whatever it is you're doing. These stunts won't get you positive publicity and hence work. Davion and I are already married and let me assure you that it is very much real and for life. We trust one another and women like you cannot harm us in any way. So for God's sake, stop throwing yourself at a married man. Where's your self respect?" Asked Sofia.

Carolyn banged the table and stood up, ready to say something b*tchy to put Sofia in her place. She considered Sofia a commoner and Carolyn couldn't take any insult from her. But before she could speak, Davion's booming voice echoed in the room.

"The press conference is over since my lawyer's have already furnished the proof that all allegations against me are baseless. I was and am in no way associated with Ms Stewart on a personal level. The few times that we had met were under a professional scenario when she was under a modeling contract to market our group of hotels and Casinos. That contract is terminated due to Ms Stewart's breach of duty.  I hope that answers all your questions. Thank you for your time," said Davion, striding towards Sofia with a nod at Colton.

A smiling Colton, ushered all the reporters out. The security guards escorted a fuming Carolyn Stewart out of the property. Davion pulled Sofia into his arms. "Do you know how awesome you are?" He asked, embedding his face into her neck.

Davion was overwhelmed by the way Sofia came rushing into the conference room to help him out. The way she fearlessly fought for his honor and stood by his side surprised him. No one had ever done this for him. Seeing her here all of a sudden had made him panic thinking that she might break off their marriage.

"I know I'm adorable. So have you fallen for me now?" Winked Sofia. Davion raised his head and laughed out loud.

"I had fallen for you the day I saw your picture, baby, " Davion whispered into her ear, making Sofia's eyes widen with shock.

"My picture? Where did you see my picture?" She asked him but he shook his head secretively.

"What will you give me if I tell you?" Asked Davion, staring deep into her eyes, his arm going around her, pulling her close.

"Go get a room, bro," said Colton walking back into the conference room with a chuckle.

Davion looked up at him. "Have the reporters and Ms Stewart left?" He asked Colton. Colton nodded.

"You can go and enjoy the rest of the day, bro. I'll deal with the lawyers before flying back to Reno tonight," said Colton.

"Colton, do come down for dinner when we  return home," invited Sofia and Colton's eyes sparkled with happiness.

"Sure, Sofia, give me your phone. I'll save my number so that you can call me yourself, " said Colton, leaning towards her. "You know your husband would never call me. He's sort of jealous, you know, " chuckled Colton with Davion glaring at him. Sofia smiled and handed her phone to Colton who punched his number and gave himself a missed call with it.

Davion snatched the phone back. "Done? Now give us some privacy, little brother," said Davion, snatching his wife away. Colton chuckled as Davion led Sofia outside the conference room. They walked into the elevator and he punched the button to take them towards the ground floor.

The receptionist stood up trembling with fright. "I'm sorry sir..," she started but Davion stopped her with a smile.

"That's okay, Jocelyn. Thanks," he said with a wave of her hand, stopping her. Sofia smiled at her.

"Thanks," she said and Davion led her away. He helped her to his car. The sun had already set and Sofia suddenly felt her stomach grumble with hunger. Davion chuckled. He instructed their chauffeur to take them to InterContinental at Wilshire Grand Center.

Sofia had no idea where that was and just watched the busy  streets whiz past as they drove towards their destination. "What is there at InterContinental?" Asked Sofia curiously.

"We're going to have the most delicious French food at
La Boucherie. Have you been there?" Asked Davion and Sofia shook her head.

"Haven't even heard of it before, " said Sofia curiously. Davion caught her hand in his.

"La Boucherie is perched on the 71st floor of the InterContinental which occupies 37 floors of the Wilshire Grand Center, the tallest building west of Chicago," he informed her. Sofia listened intently.

"Oh, will we have to eat sheep's te*ticles, frogs legs, snails and pig's intestines?" Said Sofia feeling nauseated at the thought. Davion laughed.

"Not at all. French cuisine is amazing. Have you tried Boeuf Bourguignon?" Asked Davion and Sofia shook her head.

"It's a delicious beef stew made with wine. Then there are lamb chops served with Cognac Dijon Cream Sauce. They're my absolute favorites. Have you tasted Croque Monsieur? It's the finest ham and cheese sandwich with a mouthwatering Velvety béchamel sauce oozing out all over," said Davion, licking his lips with a grin seeing the tortured expression on Sofia's face.

"Stop already. My stomach's growling like crazy. I think I can eat all of what you mentioned just now," said Sofia and Davion chuckled. Their happy banter lightened their moods and as Davion stared at his gorgeous wife, he just couldn't stop his heart from skipping a beat or two.

He realized that Sofia was exactly what he needed in his life. At that point of time, he knew that he couldn't live without her. He realized that although he had married her on the spur of the moment, he had unknowingly fallen in love with her. The realization shocked him to the core. The word 'Love' had never featured in all his twenty-two years of life. He hated the word after what his mom did to his dad. He didn't believe in it but now he was scared when his heart finally chose Sofia to fall in love with.

What would he do if she got tired of him and left him? He had no idea how long this forced marriage would last. He also didn't know if Sofia loved him back or not. His life was miserable and being a celebrity had too many disadvantages. They didn't matter to him before but now being married to Sofia, he realized that they did matter. There were many b*tches like Carolyn who could stoop to any level to tear his marriage apart. Would Sofia be able to keep her trust in him and stay by his side forever? That was the question only time could answer.

"Davion, where are you lost? We've reached," reminded Sofia. Davion came out of his thoughts and looked around. They indeed had reached. They climbed out of the car and Davion led her up the elevator towards their destination.

So high up, Sofia felt like she was walking through air. The soothing, romantic decor had her mesmerized. They were led to a VIP booth with floor-to-ceiling privacy screens that offered panoramic views of the L.A. skyline.

Davion helped her to her seat and sat down opposite her. They poured over the menu which featured reimagined French classics, premium steaks and fresh seafood.

"You order, I don't know what half of these dishes are, " shrugged Sofia. Davion chuckled and explained what each of the items meant. They at last placed their order. The food indeed was the most awesome, just as Davion had promised it to be. It was truly the best way to end the evening.

Afterwards they returned home and the moment they entered their bedroom, Davion pulled her into his arms. "Thank you for everything that you did for me today, Sofia. I don't have enough words to thank you with," said Davion, his eyes flashing with raw emotion. He wanted to tell her so much that he loved her but was afraid that she would laugh at him.

Sofia wrapped her arms around his neck. "You don't need to thank me. I'm your wife and I'll always be there for you," promised Sofia. Davion smiled at her, his gaze going towards her lips but Sofia placed a finger on his to keep him at bay.

"You should have confided in me, Davion. You could have told me exactly what you were going through," she pointed out. Davion looked away.

"I was scared that you would misunderstand me and leave me. I can't live without you if you leave me, Sofia, " he said, quietly, his eyes reflecting the pain he felt even at the thought of her going away.

"I wouldn't have, Davion. We're married for life, aren't we?" Asked Sofia. It was a simple question but it made him fall  more in love with her.

"Yes, baby," he said, laying her on the bed. His hungry mouth attacked her neck, nibbling, biting and sucking the sweet and sensitive skin there.

"Davion, wait, you forgot to tell me when and where you had seen my picture," Sofia reminded him.

Davion chuckled. "Let me make love to you first. Then I'll tell you," he whispered into her ear.
