Chapter Twenty-Seven
The whole day Davion was restless. Ever since he'd seen Sofia at her college with the same guy on two occasions, he'd been fuming. He wanted to confront her and demand an answer but everytime he thought of approaching her, she feigned sleep. Ever since he'd seen her with the guy, she had declined to having any physical relationship with him. So the seeds of suspicion were planted in his head that Sofia might be betraying him. Wild with fury, he was on his breaking point, about to burst out any minute.
Colton came to his office chamber to discuss an issue with him. "Bro, are you free?" He asked, walking in with a sheet of paper in his hands. Davion looked up at him with a frown.
"What's the matter?" He asked impatiently.
"I need your signature on this. We're introducing some new set of rules and regulations for all our casinos all over the country," said Colton, handing the sheet over to him. Davion scanned through the paper and signed it.
"Are you still mad at me?" Asked Colton, taking the paper from Davion.
Davion shook his head. "No," he said, massaging his temples.
"I'm sorry, okay," said Colton.
"That's okay," said Davion but he looked so worried that Colton knew instantly that something was wrong.
"What's up, bro? Is everything alright?" He asked but Davion shook his head while massaging his temples.
"Nothing important," Davion muttered almost to himself.
"Why don't you go home if you aren't feeling well?" asked Colton. Davion nodded.
"Are you sure that you can handle everything for the day?" He asked. He had to confront Sofia. This couldn't continue for long.
"Sure, it's not something new," said Colton. Davion nodded and started packing up for the day. Colton got up to leave.
Sofia woke up to the sound of the doorbell. She was feeling a little better than she was before. Thinking it to be Davion, she quickly freshened up. Greta peered into her room.
"There's someone to see you, Sofia. Can you come downstairs for a minute," asked Greta. Sofia followed her downstairs.
"Who could it be? Didn't the person give his or her name?" Asked Sofia with worry. She didn't know anyone in Reno who could come looking for her to her house.
"Sofiiiiiiiii," squealed the one and only voice of her twin. Sofia stood shocked, seeing Victoria right in front of her eyes. Victoria ran towards her and wrapped her arms around her in a bear hug.
"Vicky? What are you doing here? I thought I asked you not to come," said Sofia not looking very pleased to see her twin here at her house when Davion wasn't on talking terms with her. Victoria released her and looked hurt.
"Aren't you happy to see me, Sofi?" She asked with a pout.
"Of course I am but don't get your hopes up on Colton, " whispered Sofia so that Greta couldn't hear their conversation.
"God! What's wrong with you? I just came to see you," said Victoria but Sofia knew her too well. Victoria never gave up and therefore she wasn't that easily convinced.
"Why didn't mom and dad come along?" Asked Sofia. Victoria shrugged.
"They're busy as always. I couldn't wait for them forever," she rolled her eyes.
"Won't you introduce me to your twin, Sofia? Asked Greta warmly. Sofia smiled and pulled Victoria towards her.
"Greta, this is Victoria and Vicky, this is Greta. The way she takes care of me, she's nothing less than mom," said Sofia. Greta looked at her lovingly.
"Oh it's nothing dear. Come Victoria, I'll show you to your room," said Greta, pulling her trolley suitcase towards one of the guestrooms downstairs. Sofia followed them inside.
"You know, you're looking a little down. Are you sure that you're alright?" Asked Victoria. Sofia smiled and nodded.
"I'm fine," she lied, not wanting to tell her before she spoke to Davion. Greta looked at Sofia unsure of why she would lie to her family. She'd been trying to convince Sofia to go to the doctor but she didn't listen to her. Sofia sat on the bed and took an update on everything at home. They chatted about their parents, neighbors, friends especially Lisa and Liam.
Davion walked into the house hearing laughter coming in from the guest room. Curious and wary, he walked into the house going straight to the guest room. He saw Victoria and Sofia sitting on the bed and laughing away. He felt a pang of jealousy seeing them. He remembered the carefree days when she used to laugh with him similarly. Ever since the other man had come into her life, she had become more aloof. They were like strangers and all she did was sleep but now with her twin here, she seemed to have all the energy in the world.
"Hiiii, Davion! How are you? Forgotten me already?" Asked Victoria with a squeal. Davion gave her a fake smile.
"Hello, Vicky! When did you come?" He asked her.
"Just an hour ago," she informed him.
"Enjoy your stay here, Vicky. I'll just freshen up," said Davion, without looking at Sofia even once. After he left, Victoria looked at her twin.
"He didn't greet you or hug you. Are you sure that everything's alright between you two?" Asked Victoria with concern.
"Yeah, don't worry," lied Sofia. Greta came rushing into the room.
"Sofia, Davion is asking for you," she said warily. Sofia nodded and nodded at Victoria.
"I'll just check what he needs," she said, getting up and walking upstairs to their bedroom. She opened the door and walked into the room. Davion stood by the window, staring outside with a brooding look on his face. Sofia walked up to him.
"Did you call me?" She asked him apprehensively. Davion whirled around to face her, making her tremble a little. Would he hit her? He looked too furious to do anything else.
"Yes, can't I?" Muttered Davion angrily. "Why did you call her here?" He growled with anger. Sofia looked at him with a shocked expression on her face.
"Who? Vicky?" She asked with disbelief. Davion nodded.
"You don't have problems chatting with her but you can't seem to be able to look me in the eye these days. So tell me what exactly is going on. Are you two planning something behind my back?" Asked a furious Davion. Sofia cowered and her eyes widened with shock.
"What are you saying? I can't understand anything," she said, closing her eyes trying to process everything.
"Really? Maybe you called her to help you divorce me, right?" Asked Davion. Sofia's mouth hung open but before she could answer him, the doorbell rang and Colton's voice rang through the air.
"Damn it!" Growled Davion, punching the wall near him and walked out of the room leaving Sofia in tears. She was too confused to understand the complicated stuff that he was talking about. She hadn't been able to eat well and was too weak to even stand straight but she needed to put on a show for Victoria's sake. Sofia knew that she couldn't show her twin that she was unwell. She would go home and report to her parents and they would question Davion. He would be more furious with her. She sat down to rest a bit. She had no idea what was up with Davion. Why was he always angry these days? Surely it couldn't be because she declined to have s*x with him recently! She had to find out what the problem was. Why was he asking about a divorce? Did he want a divorce from her?
She could hear Colton and Victoria's voices from downstairs. So Vicky had her wish come true after all! So would she leave in a few days now that she met Colton? For the first time in her life she felt the need to be alone, to be free from her twin. For the first time she wanted Victoria to go away. She needed to talk to Davion and with a guest in the house she was unable to do so. It was evident that Davion didn't like Victoria's presence in the house.
But it was wrong! If they were married for life and her family had every right to visit her. So were they really married for life out of love or was it a relationship based on physical lust? Sofia felt choked with tears. She remembered the innumerable times that she had confessed her love to Davion but not once did he confess his own feelings. Not once did he tell her that he loved her.
Sofia covered her face and wept bitterly. She just realized what their wedding was all about. Desire! Lust! And that was all! Everything fell into place after that. So it was a wonder that Davion didn't want any children out of their marriage. More tears fell from Sofia's eyes and she sobbed bitterly. Her heart shattered thinking about Davion's true feelings for her.
A bout of nausea hit her and she threw up continuously, sitting on the floor of the en-suite beside the toilet bowl. After throwing up nearly twenty times, she lost consciousness.
