Chapter Thirty-Eight

Sofia took excessive care of Davion, so much so that he could freely move his upper torso and neck after a week of returning home. His pelvic fracture would take three more weeks to heal and it would take him almost three months to stand on his own feet. Regular physiotherapy would allow him to walk thereafter but the muscles around his pelvic girdle and his legs could take almost a year to heal. It seemed like a huge battle ahead of him but Davion didn't give up hope. He wanted to walk before his daughter was born. So he worked hard and followed everything that his physiotherapist instructed him to do. The physiotherapist praised him for his determination and effort. Even Sofia was impressed and praised him after the physiotherapist left.

"Just praise won't do," said Davion with a nervous smile on his face, his eyes fixed upon the towel in his hands as he absent-mindedly folded it in and out. Sofia's heart skipped a beat. Was he asking her for a kiss? It had been months since they had kissed. So much had happened during that span of time that it felt like a lifetime had been wasted already.

"What else do you want?" She asked him, with hope. His eyes flew up to hers.

"I know that I'm not as good-looking as I was but..," he started nervously but Sofia touched his cheek and closed the distance between them.

"You're still the most gorgeous man on earth, Davion. You know why?" She asked him in a whisper, her mouth inches from his. Davion slowly shook his head, his eyes fixed upon her lips. "Because you're mine," she told him, closing the distance till she could graze his lips with hers, her sweet tongue glided against his lower lip and he moaned and claimed her lips in a lingering and passionate kiss. Sofia couldn't wrap her arms around his neck as he had just recovered from the fall. She placed them lightly on his chest and surrendered to the kiss, opening her mouth to him hungrily. This was what she had been dying for. Davion's arm went around her and he pulled her closer while his plunged into her sweet mouth. Sofia moaned wantonly, while his mouth tasted her, not getting enough of her. Davion was too intoxicated by her to let go and they continued kissing one another as the passion mounted between them.

"I missed you so much, Sofia. I wish I was better. We could have made love like before," said Davion when he finally released her mouth and rested his head against hers.

"Yeah and now you have to wait for a year to make love," said Sofia with a giggle. Davion groaned with agony at the thought of waiting for a year.

"I want to be able to walk before Celestine is born," he told her.

"Don't worry. You will walk in another few months," said Sofia .

A month passed by and Davion started going to work in case of emergencies although he was bound to his wheelchair. Most of the time, Colton came over to their house to consult Davion since he usually worked from home. Two weeks back Victoria suddenly returned back to Las Vegas without even informing Sofia. She found it strange since they usually never hid anything from one another. Sofia had been too busy with Davion to notice but she somehow had the feeling that it had something to do with Colton. But she didn't probe into their business. If Victoria wanted to tell her, she would.

Two months passed by and Davion started making immense progress. Although he couldn't stand or walk yet, he had gained strength in his legs and could move them without feeling any pain. His upper body was completely fit and they could make out frequently. Although they didn't make love, yet they felt more connected to one another, more in love with one another than ever before.

Sofia's pregnancy was going quite well and she looked rounded and pregnant. Her ultrasound was due and Davion wanted to accompany her this time. He was more eager to hear his baby's heartbeats than Sofia. Sofia was baffled at this change in Davion's outlook of life. Was he the same man who had sworn never to have children in life?

"Ready?" He asked with a grin as he sat in his wheelchair all dressed to go out. They had shifted to a huge suite room downstairs due to Davion's injury and Sofia's pregnancy. So Davion was able to move freely in his wheelchair to his study to work and didn't need to summon his attendant all the time.

"Yeah, let's go," said Sofia, breathlessly.

Francis and David helped him to the car and they sped along to the clinic. They didn't need to wait for long at the clinic. Davion was so overwhelmed hearing Celestine's heartbeats that he had tears of happiness in his eyes. It was a different experience for Sofia this time. She had always visited on her own but this time she was with her husband and they both held hands and shared a moment of joy together. Afterwards they went home, feeling complete and blissfully happy.

"The sonographer said that Celestine can hear us. Do you think she can recognize me by now?" Asked Davion as they reached their room.

"Yes, she can hear everything," said Sofia with a smile.

"Then I need to talk to her so that when she comes out, she can instantly bond with me, right?" Asked Davion with excitement.

"Yeah, you can talk to her, you can sing to her," suggested Sofia.

Davion pulled her closer to his wheelchair so that her abdomen was nearer to him and burst into the song "Baby" by Justin Bieber, modifying it a little.

"You know you love me, I know you care
Just shout whenever and I'll be there
You want my love, you want my heart
And we will never, ever, ever be apart
Baby, baby, baby oh
Like baby, baby, baby no
Like baby, baby, baby oh
I know you'd always be mine, mine
Baby, baby, baby oh
Like baby, baby, baby no
Like baby, baby, baby oh
I know you'd always be mine, mine"

Sofia rolled her eyes with a wide grin on her face. "Seriously? That's a love song for your kind information, " she pointed out although she had to accept that he did sing quite nicely.

"No, I modified it to fit my little girl. I'm sure she'll love it," said Davion, looking hurt. Sofia grinned and pinched his cheeks.

"I'm jealous. You never ever sang for me," she said with a pout, walking away from him towards the door. Davion looked taken aback as he realized that it was true. He never sang for her.

"I'm not very good at this but I know just the song for you," he said. Clearing his throat, he sang the beautiful song,"Can't Help Falling In Love With You" by Elvis Presley. Sofia was mesmerized by the warmth in his voice. It seemed as if he meant each and every word he sang. She clutched at her heart with happy tears in her eyes listening to his deep and soulful voice. She went to him and wrapped him in her arms when he finished.

"I love you so much, Davion, " she whispered, kissing his neck.

"Kiss me and show me how much," he said with a wink. Sofia obliged him with a passionate kiss when she felt a kick in her tummy.

"Oh my! Your daughter just kicked me!" She gasped, breaking the kiss. Davion's eyes widened with disbelief.

"The little munchkin! I'm sure that she's jealous coz I sang for you, " said Davion with a grin.

The next three months passed by with Sofia and Davion too wrapped up in their own little world of love. Sofia's due date was nearing and she was a little apprehensive. Her parents arrived to her immense surprise to support her and Davion. Sofia was glad to have them with her. Davion had healed tremendously and was ready to walk but his mental inhibitions were forbidding him to do so. Everyday the physiotherapist along with Sofia encouraged him to stand up and take a step or two but he wouldn't.

Finally, a week before Sofia's delivery date, she sat down with her parents and Davion in the living room, discussing how cute the nursery looked. They had the room adjoined to theirs readied for Celestine. Davion took an active interest in the decorations and looked proud when everyone praised his efforts.

"Why didn't Vicky come, mom?" Asked Sofia with a pout. Her mom looked a little uncomfortable and looked away.

"She doesn't go out anywhere, " mumbled her mom. Sofia was a little surprised by her statement. She felt guilty that she was too preoccupied to talk to her twin. In fact after she  left Reno, she hadn't even called her once.

"Why mom? Is she unwell?" She asked with concern.
