Chapter Forty-Six

Angela felt better the next few days and aunt Sandra took her to a gynecologist in the nearest hospital where she used to work. The doctor checked her up and prescribed the ultrasound tests and blood tests for her to get done. Damian had to go to their university to get permission to continue their online classes.

Damian wanted to get admission to the nearest agricultural college which was just 10 miles away. He had decided to continue architecture till he completed the current semester.

Afterward, he met a depressed Xavion at his office. Xavion had to drop out of regular classes and opt for weekend classes when his uncle got married and left the company in his hands. It was Xavion's parents' company which he was managing. Added to that, Xavion was having problems with Juliette who had started mistrusting him and broke off their relationship. Damian tried hard to cheer him up. He gave Xavion aunt Sandra's address if he needed to come over.

He went back to Rollingwood and got himself admitted to his college. He returned back to Aunt Sandra's house and saw that Angela was making his favorite steak, uncle Jim's cafe style.

His heart somersaulted and he went straight into the kitchen to inhale the mouthwatering aroma. Angela glared at him.

"Don't you touch the food? You're dirty. Go take a shower first," said Angela, and Damian rolled his eyes at her.

"I'm going, don't go hyper, " he said.

"So what happened at the university? Did you get the permission?" Asked aunt Sandra.

"Yes, mom. I also enrolled myself into Austin Centre For Agriculture," He said with a happy smile.

"I'll get you admitted to your online classes, Angel," he said and Angela nodded at him. He went off to take a shower.

After five minutes, he yelled from his room, "Angel where are my favorite jeans?"

Aunt Sandra chuckled. "Did you wash it?" She asked and Angela nodded.

"Yes, he always wears it. Today I got my hands on it. So I washed it," she said, getting up and going to their bedroom.

"What?" She asked.

"Did you wash my favorite jeans?" He scowled.

"Yes, it was dirty and smelly. How can you wear it every day without washing it?" She asked with a grimace.

"God you've become one of those, " he said rolling his eyes.

"One of who?" She asked in confusion.

"Impossible wives," he said, wearing a towel and coming towards her. Angela scowled at him and then realized what he was about to do.

"Damian not now. Aunt Sandra can hear everything. She's in the living room," she said, hesitantly.

"What am I doing? If you want I can be exceptionally quiet with it," he said wiggling his eyebrows and coming closer. He pulled her into his arms and claimed her lips in another smoldering yet gentle kiss. She melted in his arms already.

"Children, let's eat first, shall we?" Said aunt Sandra from the living room.

Shocked they separated from one another. "I told you she could hear us. I'm feeling so embarrassed to go in front of her now," said Angela, as she facepalmed.

"What's there to be embarrassed? She knows we already did it. How else did you get pregnant?" Asked Damian, easing her discomfort.

"Yes, you're right. Dress up and come out," she said, going towards the door.

"We'll continue this later," he ordered and she smiled and left.

They enjoyed the food. "This tastes exactly like uncle Jim's. Thank you, Angel, " said Damian.

Angela smiled,"Aunt Sandra guided me," she admitted.

"You're the best, mom," said Damian, and aunt Sandra's heart melted at his words.

Damian enrolled Angela in her online architecture classes. Their college and studies continued. Angela felt nauseated in the mornings otherwise she was fine throughout the day. She tried taking power naps and ate small meals throughout the day in between to deal with her tiredness and nausea.

After three months, their first ultrasound was due. Damian took her to feel the heartbeats of their baby for the first time. He recorded it on his mobile and every time played it so that they could all hear it. He forwarded the audio clip to Xavion who was too happy to hear it. He was too busy with his company to visit them and Damian understood his situation.

Three more months later they appeared for their term-end exams. Damian received a certificate for his 1 year of architecture and shifted towards agriculture completely. He started two more farms in Texas apart from the Grass Roots Farm and all of them were running successfully.

The baby was developing well and Angela had rounded up healthily. She was glowing with happiness. Her dad didn't call after that day and Angela was grateful.

All her brothers visited her once or twice a month and stayed for a day or two. She and Damian had grown very close to aunt Sandra. They were like a happy family.

Damian was excited to see their baby on their last ultrasound session when they could vividly see him on the screen sucking his thumb. They came to know that Angela was carrying a male child.

Ever since Damian has been up to hunting for a name for his son. "What about Damon?" He suggested.

"No, it sounds like Demon." Said Angela.

"What about Ian? It has both our names, " said Damian, his eyes lighting up.

"Not too short," said Angela, and Damian sighed.

"Then Nigel," he said hopefully.

Angela shook her head. "I give up. Is there any name that you like?" He asked with a sigh.

"What about Daniel? It's sweet and it has both your names in it," suggested Aunt Sandra.

"Yess, I love it actually, " said Angela appreciatively.

"Yay, finally our baby gets a name. Hey baby Daniel, are you listening? We found a name for you. You should thank your grandma for it," cooed Damian. He talked to his baby regularly, bringing his face near her stomach. It had become his favorite pastime after of course his top favorite one of making love. This past time however had the advantage that it could be done in front of everyone.

"Oww, aunt Sandra, Daniel kicked me! He must have liked his name," said Angela, and aunt Sandra smiled happily.

Damian's eyes went round with horror. "Is kicking a good thing or a bad thing? Is he a bad baby that he's kicking his mommy?" He asked. He knew you shouldn't kick elders and his baby was already kicking inside his mom's tummy. He was confused about why Angela and aunt Sandra was so happy about it.

"It's a good thing, silly. Babies start kicking inside as they complete
their gestation period. It's a sign that they are growing, active, and healthy," explained Angela.

"This calls for a celebration. I had baked a lemon pie. Let's eat it, children, " said aunt Sandra and Damian rushed to help her.

The next three months went by without any complications too. Their next mid-term exams were over too and they were more relaxed and awaiting their baby's arrival. The room next to theirs had been turned into a nursery for baby Daniel.

Baby Daniel, kicked a lot every time Damian spoke to him. He even sang to his baby all his favorite songs and Angela watched him indulgently.

"Damian that's a rap song. Sing something melodious," said Angela as they lay down on the bed after dinner. Daniel had been kicking a lot and Damian didn't want to make love in front of his baby. He was scared that he would learn the art of lovemaking the moment he was born.

"No, love songs for him. Only baby songs," he said strictly.

"Why what's wrong with soothing love songs?" She asked in confusion.

"Nooo. Do you want him to be a born Romeo?" He asked.

"No one's born a Romeo, Damian," she corrected him.

"I was. I knew it the moment I lay eyes upon you," he confessed and Angela giggled. She suddenly felt a spasm and a contraction in her vagina.

"Damian, I think Daniel wants to come out," she said, closing her eyes as the pain subsided.

Damian got up and rushed to aunt Sandra's room. "Mom, mom, Daniel's trying to come out," he yelled at the top of his voice in a panic.

Aunt Sandra ran to Angela's room to check. "Hurry, take your cards, id proofs, money, and start your car. We need to go to the hospital," she said as she packed a small bag for Angela.

After ten minutes, Damian helped a distraught Angela to the car. "Breathe deeply in and out, dear," advised Aunt Sandra and Angela did as instructed.

He drove her to the hospital. While Damian completed the formalities, she was whisked away to the labor room. Aunt Sandra held her hand and didn't leave her for a second. The contractions had become frequent and excruciating. She gritted her teeth and breathed deeply in and out as they readied the OT. A nurse came to get her ready for her delivery.

Damian came in at the last minute, worried and frantic. One look at him and she forgot her pain. "I'm fine Damian. Don't worry," she comforted him. They wheeled her away to the OT. After an hour, baby Daniel was born.
