Chapter Sixteen

Angela loved the icecream that Damian got for her. What touched her most was that he hadn't forgotten.

They talked about the farm and at last thought of going to sleep. Angela climbed onto one side of the bed while Damian occupied another. "Don't worry, we'll only sleep together," he reassured her. Angela relaxed a little at his reassurance. He scooped her into his arms and spooned her to sleep.

It was the best sleep Damian ever had in his entire life. He didn't want to return back.

The next morning, they woke up late. After breakfast, the field workers came over to start work on the farm. Damian oversaw the work along with his right hand man, Jim Rogers. He was a local whose granddad was a friend of Damian's grandfather. He was two years older than Damian and had experience working on farms. He worked as a labour in the neighbouring farms for a living. He was happy to get a permanent job at Grass Roots Farm to manage everything. He needed the money and Damian was impressed with his hard work.

Angela walked along the Creek for sometime and then joined Damian. He introduced her to Jim Rogers. The work went on till lunchtime. Angela had returned to the cabin to make lunch. Damian had caught a crappie early in the morning when she was still asleep.

Angela proceeded to make crappie creole to be served on a bed of hot rice. She'd started cooking the rice. In thirty minutes, she finished preparing lunch, just as Damian walked in and headed straight to the en-suite for a shower.

Angela cleaned the kitchen and served the steaming hot food onto two plates and brought it to the table. Damian came in wearing only a pair of sweatpants, his muscles rippling as he sat at the table. He refused to meet her eyes and attacked the food. What was wrong with him? Angela had no clue. Maybe she shouldn't have touched his fish? Was he angry that she cooked it without his permission?

"You don't like it?" She asked, upset that he was behaving this way after she put in so much effort behind making a decent lunch.

"No, it's good," he grunted and ate in silence, not once looking at her. Angela eyed her and ate her food. She felt close to tears at his indifferent attitude. Did he lose interest in her already? Maybe it was time for her to leave.

She sighed and walked to the kitchen with her head hanging. She didn't have any wish to eat anymore.

He caught her wrist. "Why are you not eating?" He growled.

"I lost my appetite," she said, trying to extricate herself.

"Sit and eat," he ordered, his eyes flashing with fury.

Angela sighed and sat down. He resumed his eating but Angela played with her fork.

"What have I done? Why are you behaving like an asshole with me?" She yelled, not able to take it in.  She got up and just walked back into the kitchen.

"How dare you flirt with Jim? You could have worn clothes before coming out. He was ogling at you.  Couldn't you see?" He yelled back and Angela just stared at him in disbelief. Her sundress was the one he had packed and it was quite decent.

"When did I flirt with him?" She asked furiously.

"I saw you batting your eyelashes at him. I saw you holding his hand more than necessary for a shake. What was that then?" He growled back. Angela rolled her eyes.

"Why should I bat my eyelashes at him? Are you crazy? I just had a brief handshake because he's known to your grandpa. Please, stop overreacting, " she said, upset by his words. Tears pricked her eyes and she choked on them.

"I always wear clothes before going out. I'm not a slut if that's what you meant," she said as a tear spilled down her cheeks and she turned around and ran to the en-suite to lock herself in.

Damian rushed after her. He was too blind with jealousy and now he had hurt her. Could he get more pathetic than this? He reached her in a few strides and caught her hand and pulled her into his arms.

His thumb wiped her tears and he whispered, "I'm so sorry baby. You're only mine. Do you hear me?" He lowered his head and captured her lips in a deep, wild kiss. His hand gripped her hips and picked her up, her legs going around his waist. He carried her to the bed and sat down with her on his lap, straddling him. His lips didn't leave hers for a second. His tongue tasted her, possessed her mouth. His mouth branded her took the kiss to a different level, his hands molding her to him. He kissed and kissed till she was totally breathless. His mouth left hers to suck the sweet spots on her neck.

"Tell me that you're mine, Angel," he said huskily,  his breath hitched and his eyes intense and dark.

"I'm yours Damian,  you know it," she admitted,  her hands around his neck, her breasts crushed against his hard chest, his erection poking into her. Damian embedded his face in her neck, satisfied with her admission.

There was a knock on the door of the cabin and both of them came to their senses. "It'll be the workers,  most probably. I've got to go, baby, " he said,  reluctantly releasing her and getting up. "But we're not done." With that parting shot he left. Angela went to the kitchen to complete her work. She dared not go out while the workers were present. Damian was impossible to deal with when he was angry and she better not do anything to make him mad.

She explored the cabin, checked out what was there in the cabinets and did the laundry and cleaned the cabin. She sat on the porch watching the gurgling brook and the birds. There were some messages on her mobile phone from her roommates enquiring about her whereabouts.

She just replied with a one liner that she was at home. The messages stopped and she shut her mobile down. Maybe shifting into their apartment was a bad idea. Ever since she had moved in,  her roommates had been too busy to actually be there for her.

They had their own lives and didn't care much. She didn't fit in. She missed her dad and her brothers. Maybe she would go back home after a few days. The only good thing that happened to her recently was Damian.  She loved him and he loved her back. She couldn't be happier. She wished that this happiness wouldn't ever end. She didn't want to leave this little haven and go back to the city.

Convincing her family about Damian would be difficult after what she had heard about Damian's dad. Her dad would never agree and neither would Damian's dad. She wondered why his dad hated her so much. The few times that she had met him when she was a child, he had been very loving. He had always treated her as his own daughter. His dad didn't interact with Damian much, but to his surprise, his dad always talked to Angela, athough those encounters had been few.

She closed her eyes and thought about her life with Damian, living with him,  married to him. She opened her eyes and saw him at a distance, instructing some of the workers. She could see how involved he was with this project. He knew so much about agriculture. Maybe he would be studying agriculture.

She might have dozed off thinking about him. A hand on her forehead woke her up. It was late afternoon and the sun was about to set. She opened her eyes and saw Damian in front of her.

"Let's go inside, Angel," he said, softly. He picked her up, bridal style and carried her inside. The workers had gone and he was free now. He sat down on the sofa and placed her on his lap.

"I have to oversee their work Angel. It will take me at least ten days more. You'll get bored here. Do you wish to return?" He asked her hesitantly.

Angela felt sad. She rested her head on his chest. "I don't want to but what if my brothers go to the apartment in search of me?" She asked.

"Hmmm, quite possible, " he said, thinking it over.

"Tomorrow I'll drop you back at the apartment. Then I'll return here. Okay?" He asked and Angela nodded.

"I might go back home. I don't like it at the apartment much. They hardly have time for me," said Angela in a small voice.

"Good. I didn't want you to stay with them anyways. With their boyfriends coming in all the time, the place has no privacy," complained Damian.

"Ok, I'll shift back as soon as possible," she promised. "But how will we meet?" She asked.

"We will think of something, don't worry," he said with a smile. Angela decided that she would go back to her dad's house as soon as she informed her flatmates.
